Down the Yea River – A baptism of snags

by Mar 27, 20223 comments

The journey began with the descent of the Yea River (Kayigai) to Ghin Ghin, where the Yea River meets the Goulburn River (Warring). Having paddled this section of river before I knew what to expect! Although time tends to mellow things out.
Once I left my backyard, the following 8 hours involved some paddling, climbing over countless fallen trees, lots of boat dragging, dodging snags, weaving through branches, and plenty of hard yakka; this was the baptism of snags that would release me into the Goulburn and set me on my way to the ocean.

Would I recommend this section of river to anyone? Yeah, Nah, probably not! Would I paddle from Yea to Ghin Ghin for a third time? … maybe, but I can definitely wait for that day to come!
